Your Everyday Ceramic Coating Care Routine

Once the coating has cured, consistent maintenance helps keep the finish clean and easier to care for.

A practical starting point is a wash every one to two weeks, adjusted for how often you drive and where you park. Wash sooner after heavy road grime, winter salt, or insect buildup.

You don’t need to add a product after every wash. Focus first on cleaning the vehicle properly and drying it carefully.

How to Hand Wash a Ceramic-Coated Vehicle

A careful hand wash gives you control over the products and tools touching your paint.

1. Start With Cool Paint

Park in the shade and let hot panels cool before washing. Work in manageable sections so shampoo and rinse water do not dry on the surface.

2. Rinse Away Loose Dirt

Rinse thoroughly before touching the paint. Pay attention to lower panels, wheel arches, and other areas where grit collects.

If you use a pressure washer, follow its instructions and maintain an appropriate distance from paint, trim, seals, and damaged areas.

3. Use Suitable Shampoo and Clean Tools

For routine washing, use a coating-compatible automotive shampoo recommended by Finesse Customs. A pH-neutral shampoo is a common starting point, but product suitability matters too.

Use a clean microfiber wash mitt. Keep wheel-cleaning tools separate from anything used on your paint.

4. Wash Gently From the Top Down

Clean the roof and upper panels first, leaving the dirtier lower areas until last. Use light pressure and rinse your mitt frequently.

A separate rinse bucket or multiple clean wash mitts can help keep collected dirt from returning to the paint.

5. Rinse Thoroughly

Remove shampoo from the entire vehicle, including mirrors, trim, panel gaps, and lower surfaces.

6. Dry With Care

Use a clean, soft microfiber drying towel with minimal pressure. A vehicle-safe blower can help remove water from mirrors, grilles, badges, and crevices.

If dirt remains after washing, clean that area again before drying it. Do not rub remaining road film into the paint.

Using a Touchless Car Wash

A touchless automatic wash uses water pressure and detergents without brushes, cloth strips, or foam rollers contacting your paint. It can be a convenient option between hand washes, particularly during Ohio’s colder months.

Before using one:

  • Confirm your coating has completed its required curing period.

  • Choose the touchless automatic bay or option.

  • Check with Finesse about suitable wash packages and added products.

  • Inspect the vehicle afterward. Touchless washing can leave behind road film.

“Brushless” does not always mean touchless. Some washes use cloth or foam equipment that still contacts the vehicle.

Use our local map below to find touchless options near Canton and get directions. A listed location’s touchless status describes its equipment; it does not certify its wash chemicals for your coating.

Verified = operator evidence or Finesse confirmation. Amber listings need equipment confirmation. Coating compatibility and current operation are not certified.

What verification means

We check operator-published information for an explicit touchless or touch-free automatic claim and a matching branch address. Pro-Shine, Alliance Touch Free, and Soldier's Shine listings are supported by Finesse's local confirmation. Third-party reports alone stay unverified. Published claims can become outdated: confirm the bay is touchless before entering. “Brushless” by itself is not enough, because cloth or foam equipment may still touch the paint. We do not certify chemicals, wash results, or coating warranty compatibility. Evidence and dates appear under each listing.

Bird Droppings, Bugs, Sap, and Water Spots

Remove Contamination Promptly

Bird droppings, insect residue, and tree sap deserve attention as soon as practical. A coating does not make it safe to leave them on the paint indefinitely.

On a cured coating, use a suitable cleaner to soften contamination before gentle removal. Avoid scraping, aggressive scrubbing, or wiping a dry surface.

Watch for Water Spots

Sprinklers and hard water can leave mineral deposits when droplets dry. Dry the vehicle after washing and avoid parking where sprinklers can reach it.

If spots remain after a normal wash, contact us for advice. Household cleaners, abrasive pads, and improvised chemical mixtures can create a bigger problem.

Winter Care for Northeast Ohio Drivers

Winter salt, slush, and road grime can collect quickly in Ohio.

During winter:

  • Clean the vehicle when conditions allow, especially after heavy salt exposure.

  • Pay attention to lower panels and wheel arches.

  • Use a suitable touchless wash when hand washing is impractical.

  • Avoid washing where water will freeze on the vehicle or create an icy surface.

A touchless wash is useful for winter cleanup, but schedule a thorough hand wash when practical.

What to Avoid on Your Coated Vehicle

Protect your finish by avoiding habits that can introduce scratches or interfere with maintenance.

  • Automatic washes that use brushes, cloth strips, or foam rollers on the paint.

  • Shared self-serve brushes.

  • Dry wiping dust or dirt.

  • Dirty towels, wash mitts, and wheel brushes used on painted panels.

  • Household detergents and cleaners.

  • Abrasive polish, rubbing compound, or clay treatments without advice.

  • Unapproved waxes, sealants, and ceramic spray products.

When to Contact Finesse Customs

Reach out if you notice:

  • Persistent water spots or contamination.

  • A rough surface after washing.

  • A noticeable change in how water behaves across the paint.

  • Marks, scratches, or an area that looks different.

  • Uncertainty about a cleaner, wash package, or maintenance product.

A change in water beading alone does not prove the coating has failed. We can help assess whether the vehicle needs cleaning, decontamination, or another service.

Follow the inspection and maintenance schedule associated with your coating package. If you’re unsure what applies to your vehicle, ask us before booking elsewhere.
